VALERIE WINTERHOLLER

Valerie chooses to paint with acrylics and uses clay board panels. She applies her colors in layers and burnishes back into the paint to reveal different mixtures of colors and textures.  The smoothness of the panel and depth of the resulting colors are sometimes reminiscent of encaustic works. The results can be unexpected and quite exciting.

"My work is a reflection of movement- of the way I traverse the world and the impressions left behind. Inspired by the solitude of the mountains, the rhythm of hiking trails, and the exhilaration of carving through snow, my paintings serve as a journal of where I've been.

Working with acrylic and mixed media on a claybord surface, I abstract landscapes not to distort them, but to capture the essence of a place- the shifting light, the energy of a climb, the quiet before a descent. Each brushstroke is a memory, each layer a trace of my journey. Through color, texture, and form, I seek to translate the fleeting, immersive experience of nature into something lasting, something felt.

My work is not just about the landscapes I move through, but about how they move through me."
