Ohgita%20Katsuya

Ohgita Katsuya's glass works renew the viewer's awareness of the existence of light. The works are created through the fusion of the Japanese aesthetic—simple forms from which superfluous decoration has been eliminated but possessing adequate coloring—with the cold cast technique that was developed by ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia.

Ohgita was born in Kawachinagano, Osaka, Japan and graduated form the Kanazawa College of Art in 1980.  Since that time he has studied glass working with institutions such as the Tokyo Glass Art Institute and the Gotoh Memorial Foundation.  Ohgita has been in numerous museums throughout Japan and Tokyo.

As of today he is showing his cast glass houses in only 3 locations in the United States, Peterson/Roth being the only gallery on the west coast; as well as exhibits in museums throughout Tokyo, Japan and Germany.
